Braemar 2 Power Station

Braemar 2 is an integrated, 450MW open-cycle, gas-fired power station and 110km high-pressure gas pipeline network.

The power station was completed safely on time and budget in June 2009.

It is located 40km southwest of Dalby in Queensland, adjacent to the QLD-NSW high voltage transmission Interconnector and Powerlink 320/274 kV Substation.

Braemar 2 provides three per cent of the combined electricity requirements of Queensland and New South Wales.

The plant has the capability to operate as a peaking, shoulder or base-load generator by making use of its large gas storage capacity and long-term gas supply contracts.

ERM led the project’s development and financing, was the project and construction manager, and now manages, operates and trades on behalf of the business.

The project is jointly owned by Arrow Energy, who will supply gas from their nearby Queensland coal seam gas fields.

It is estimated the project will bring $60 million into the local area.

The power station has broken many records and has set a benchmark for delivery of an open-cycle plant in Australia, reaching completion just 20 months from commencing construction.
