Exploration Permit 389 - exploration history

Exploration Permit EP 389 is within the onshore North Perth Basin, Western Australia. The Dampier-Bunbury and Parmelia pipelines traverse the permit. The Gingin Gasfield is located in EP 389 and was discovered by WAPET via the Gingin 1 and Gingin 2 wells drilled in 1964 and 1965 respectively.

Gingin 1 was put on production from 1972¬1976 flowing an average 5 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcf/d).

The Gingin 2 discovery tested gas at rates up to 3.9 mmcf/d. The Bootine 1 well was drilled by Mesa Australia Limited in 1981 and flowed 2.25 mmcf/d from a test of a 7 metre net gas column in a 35 metre sand interval in the Cattamarra Coal Measures.

Gingin West 3D seismic survey and prospects

In 2008 the EP 389 joint venture recorded and processed 45 km2 of 3D seismic. Interpretation of the data from that Gingin West 3D seismic survey identified five drillable prospects, being:

  • The Gingin Gasfield
  • The Gingin Deep Gasfield
  • The Gingin West Prospect, Block A
  • The Gingin West Prospect, Block B
  • The Bootine Deep Prospect
