Australia's energy industry has evolved rapidly over the last 30 years. By the end of the 1980's the nation had outgrown the benefits of government monopolies and have since progressively introduced private competition which continues today.

ERM has been at the forefront of the privatisation over this time, starting as one of Australia's first private energy planning consultancies in 1980.

 In the 1990s ERM positioned itself to compete for private sectors opportunities as they emerged. In 1996 an ERM-led consortium won the first Australian competitive power development tender which resulted in the development of the 330 MW Oakey power station in Southern Queensland which has been successfully operating since 2000.

Since then ERM has gone on to build 5 per cent of Australia's total power generation capacity and has had a 30 per cent market share of the Australian generation development market in the last five years.

In parallel with this development success, ERM has diversified into an integrated energy company with a unique electricity sales business which focuses exclusively on large commercial, industrial and government customers, a gas exploration business with a successful gas discovery and an energy services businesses that manages the power stations and pipelines and associated businesses.

Today ERM is Australia's largest private, integrated energy company, the fastest growing electricity sales business, the leading generation developer, and the manager of 1,145 MW of generation and 140 km of gas pipelines.

Annual revenue is above $400m and growing steadily year on year.

Proudly, ERM has achieved this growth and diversification safely without a single permanent injury, responsibly using low-emissions technology with half the carbon emissions of coal, and profitably with project and business targets consistently met or exceeded along the way.

ERM's performance is widely recognised throughout the industry and the company is highly respected for both its skills and delivery capability.

Looking forward, the global and domestic demand for energy continues to grow at a steady rate with the fastest growth in Asia.  The demand for affordable cleaner electricity is growing at a higher and increasing rate.
